Channel 3000: Welcome To The New Channel 3000.com - Madison News Story - WISC Madison

  • A disgruntled User · 5 months ago
Why don't you display the results for the online poll regarding your new web site design? I'd be interested to see if others hate it as much as I do.
  • Hate the new look! · 5 months ago
I agree with disgruntled! I loved the old website....this one is much harder to read things....everything seems crammed together. Alot harder to find what I am looking for.......sorry!
  • twiga13 · 5 months ago
This is the best revamp of a news media website that I have seen!! Layout is great. Items are organized in a easy to follow format. Its definitely the best in Madison.
  • MQ · 5 months ago
the blue font on the front page is really hard to read. I also find the black font elsewhere just not dark enuf and it hurts to read it.

It looks like the Channel 15 site now-which I don't like, cause all the news is jammed in the middle.
  • Jan · 5 months ago
Is there live broadcast via the internet for the news at noon?
  • Melissa · 5 months ago
Yes there is! Just go to the home page, and under the Video Box on the right, you will see a link that says "Live! Watch the News"
  • Steve · 5 months ago
How do you get to the live news and noon now my link got changed?
  • dude · 5 months ago
this is so overdue. the old site was just that, old. nice job!!
  • 3000dissapointments · 5 months ago
The old one was a lot more user friendly from a readability standpoint and being able to find things. I would recommend bringing it back. The new one seems to cluttered and busy. Keep it simple!
  • Pat Munz · 5 months ago
I have no clue how to get the 5-7AM live internet news now, nor the noon news which I watched both every day -- HELP!!!!
  • brbtv · 5 months ago
Pat, on many pages of the site is a video widget (top right part of page) on the bottom left part of the widget you will see the words "Live Now". When a newscast is currently airing you'll see the name of it right below "Live Now". Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
  • Eric · 5 months ago
Like the site overall, but in this story, there's an image of the site, with a grey box below it, and within the grey box is hyperlinked text, which is a blue-grey shade. Very hard to read that.

Much cleaner looking site. Looks less tacked together than the old one. But you need to think about how dark text looks when it's placed in dark colored boxes.
  • Eric · 5 months ago
As a comment to "a disgruntled user," the poll results are visible by clicking the "results" link that is below the poll. This works the same way the polls have always worked. If you're not seeing the results, you may have a Pop-Up blocker running which is preventing the poll results from displaying (they pop-up in a separate little browser window, which is the same way it worked on the last site).
  • guest · 5 months ago
old format was easier to navigate and visually appealing. This new site is too busy.
  • Peter Steinmetz · 5 months ago
I really like your new look. It has a much more contemporary feel to it. Also, for some reason, it doesn't seem as commercial as the old site.
  • Pebs · 5 months ago
The old site was WAY too cluttered. There was about 1000 hyperlinks on the home page.

Nice job on the redesign. Now, please update the site on the weekends instead of leaving the same news on there for three days and we'll be all set!
  • I Like It · 5 months ago
    Much, much better!! Thank you.
  • Alfred · 5 months ago
I like it because it is still easy to get around.... I don't might that it changed.... but always keep it simple when it does
  • not happy · 5 months ago
The new web site does not gray out the articles I have already read which makes it much more difficult to find the new news items. It is more difficult to read with the light blue text. I would like to see a darker text.
  • Tiny · 5 months ago
This site looks wonderful! The color and font style are very easy on the eyes to both read and navigate through. Kudos to you all! :)
  • Valerie · 5 months ago
    Love your new site!!
  • Plumber1 · 5 months ago
BRING BACK THE OLD SITE, OR I"M SWITCHING TO CHANNEL 15!
  • SPman · 5 months ago
If I wanted to go to a site that looks like CNN, I'd go to CNN.
CNN site is bad and so is this new look.
  • Change it back · 5 months ago
In some cases change is good....In this case it is not!
  • D · 5 months ago
To Plumber 1, I've already switched!
  • Admirer · 5 months ago
I think it is a vast improvement. Much cleaner and far less crowded. I've always thought local media sites try to include too much and be too many things (something your old site was guilty of). This is by far an improvement and the more contemporary design is very pleasant.
  • Gordon · 5 months ago
did you get rid of mycast?
  • Rachael · 5 months ago
I love your new and improved web site! Thanks!
  • News-itus · 5 months ago
For those who have already written this page off... try again, give it time. Chances are you didn't know how to navigate the old page...but eventually you got the hang of it. Change is hard after 7 years. I know for a fact the same negative comments were posted after the last revamp.
This is cleaner, neater and visualy less cluttered. Similar to the old page, if you give it time, you'll love it. I do!
  • L · 5 months ago
I always went to your site for news. It WAS the best. Now it just looks likes all the rest. Please go back to the old site.
  • Happy · 5 months ago
The NEW look is Great. Job very well done!!!!
  • Blinks · 5 months ago
I go to your site every night for news and updates. It was a shock to see the change but after I took time and looked over the site I'm VERY HAPPY with it. Nice job well done !!!
  • Maria · 5 months ago
Please put the time near the top so we know how current the page i s
  • Jon · 5 months ago
WOW! This is fantastic! Great improvement...
  • going blind on the new site · 5 months ago
    holy cow...this is awful!
  • Love it! · 5 months ago
Your site looks great. Modern, clean, and easy to navigate. My new favorite feature: that I can get the current weather on the main page. Nice job in the redesign!
  • Marty Mozena · 5 months ago
I think that the site is overall well done, I'm not sure what people are talking about that it is difficult to navigate, it would seem that reading headlines and clicking on the one that are interesting would be fairly simple..........this may be challenging to some.........they should stick to using crayons and pasta shells with glue.
  • PK · 5 months ago
The blue is difficult to read, please use black.
  • David · 5 months ago
    Where's the live cam?????
  • Arnold Braund · 5 months ago
    Nice looking! I like it.
  • ALM · 5 months ago
What an improvement! I frequently check your site for weather, but avoided reading much news here, because the old site was so cluttered. This one is nicer and more professional looking. One thing is missing, though: a logo icon in the address bar for those of us who use Firefox and want to add it to the bookmark toolbar without taking up the space for text.
  • J Harding · 5 months ago
Don't like this at all. Change is usually good, but what you had was awesome. So much different than everyone else. Now this just looks like every other site out there. Boring!!
  • Wes · 5 months ago
I know the Adds pay the bill but four or five on the front page is busy.
Could you at least strike the top add banners on the top of the front page?
  • Needs Some Tweaking · 5 months ago
I like the idea of trying to include most everything on your website. However, the light blue/grey print is much more difficult to read ... and at times, the headings or topics seem to run together (as they are positioned too close to each other). Maybe an asterisk or something before each topic could help.

Having the main topics in "black" print ... and then adding the subtopics in the blue/grey color might also help. I actually do like the contrast between these two colors ... but you may want to think about readability first.
  • cc · 5 months ago
this is so much better. jeez took long enough
  • Eric · 5 months ago
I would like to see a return of the RSS feed. That's the tool used to let newsreader programs or RSS enabled browsers like Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer subscribe to a web site in order to alert subscribers of new content.

I don't care to submit my email address, cell phone number, or register with 3rd party companies such as Disqus just to get news updates. Most demographic information you need is already being tracked by the cookies on this site.
  • KC · 5 months ago
If you scroll down to the bottom of the homepage ... you will see a widget on the bottom right-hand side titled Multimedia -- the RSS feed is located at the top of that box. Hope that helps!
  • Eric · 5 months ago
I can't figure out why the "News Links" isn't included in the top submenu for the "news" tab in the menu bar. After all, it's related to the news you're reporting, right? Worried people won't see it in a submenu? You can also leave the link at the bottom of the page. Personally, it would be easier for me to find in the news submenu at the top of the page.

As for the weather: Do not like the layout at all. I can see putting the interactive radar at the top of the page, and the weather snapshot, but why bury the more detailed forecast so far down the page? I would:

    • Swap the other radar images (the ones to the right of the interactive radar) for the Current Conditions.
    • Then I would move the School Closings (... in summer. Really?!) and the Tower Cam boxes to their immediate left (you'll have to push those secondary radars we moved earlier down the page, along with the somewhat useless "Weather News")
    • Once that's done, I'd move the Detailed Forecast up and below the Weather Alerts Box, which is much closer to the top of the page, and makes more sense (in an information flow sort of way) than splitting the weather alerts from the forecast with something frivolous like Tower Cams.

Coming from a graphic designer/web page designer my self this new look is pleasing to the eye, less cluttered, and it should only take three clicks to find what your looking for or people will leave the sight.
Congratulations & remember not everyone will like it. Like some of you who have made your unprofessional comments.
  • stan · 5 months ago
Bring back the old. The weather screen has no content and 5 ads by don miller. Bring back the temp and conditions and dump the ads.
  • Annonymous · 5 months ago
I really really hate it. I wish you'd change it back, and for people with an eye condition the weather map is really hard to read. I liked the old version better as well, please change it back
  • Barbara Scott · 5 months ago
When I first logged in I thought that it was a hijack on my page. I think it looks like Mal-ware page.
Font colors are hard to read.

Liked the old design much better.
  • Michele · 5 months ago
I don't stop by everyday, but I guess I won't be stopping by much at all anymore. The layout is not user friendly at all.
  • Joe · 5 months ago
Congradulations on having the MOST comercialized "news" website I have ever encountered. The comercial aspecs of this site outweight the informative aspects greatly. I would stromgly recommend that you remove some or all of these comercial adds. If not I will simply refer to news site with less comercial activity. Case and point: what do you see at the very top of this page, higher then any other item. AN AD FOR NETFLIX!

You guys need to make up your mind, are you a news web site or one big comercial waste of my time. Just the fact mame! As SGT Friday used to say.
  • sue · 5 months ago
don't like...too confusing and don't understand all these requests for adobe flash player add-ons
  • Ann · 5 months ago
Overall, I think the new site is ok, but I think the Weather area needs to be revisited. Personally, I think the written description of the forecast should be higher up. I also am not keen on the new interactive radar. Maybe it will grow on me.

I was wondering why the heck everyone was complaining about the color of the fonts -- it shows up great for me on my iMac (with a very nice LCD display)! So I fired up an old Mac with a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube, or the "TV tube" style monitors, in case anyone doesn't know the acronym), and I began seeing a bit what they're talking about.

Then I started imagining what it would be like viewing it on an un-calibrated monitor (which most people's monitors are) under office lighting and now see their point. I think it's a case of design exceeding the lowest common denominators (old or un-calibrated PC monitors). It's a tough call -- do you darken the headlines and links for those who haven't taken the time to calibrate their displays (or don't know how), or do you leave things as they are and alienate a vocal portion of your visitors? For what it's worth, it wouldn't bug me one way or the other.

I HATE THIS NEW SITE! I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING ON HERE--YOU'VE RUINED MY NEWS READING!

Sorry for the capital letters but wanted to express my extreme dislike of this new layout. Bring back the old site!!!!!!!!!!
  • Don't Like It · 5 months ago
Hate it. Bring back the old site or better yet allow us to choose our own "skin" to use.
